
The REAL STEPS programmes you are about to read about are excellent for everyone from all walks of life. You can register for yourself, or if you are an employer these are great for staff training or for your clients. It is worth getting a few people in need of encouragement and support together for small group sessions. Through our programmes you will gain a fresh perspective on breaking free from stifling cycles and bad habits. Below are the courses we run throughout the year. Your Choices (Therapeutic programme to break old cycles) Let's talk about the tough stuff and work through some of those deeper issues of life. Your Choices is a comprehensive 16 week educational and personal growth programme discussing the key issues around trauma, neglect, dysfunction etc. It is therapeutic by nature with discussion papers that are designed to challenge and be emotionally provocative. Each participant needs to be encouraged to honestly look at themselves and how their issues impact their own life as well as in their relationship with others. This course has run successfully for the past 16 years with approximately 1,000 people benefiting positively from this programme. We run separate men's and women's programmes with night and day programmes offered. Our purpose is to get alongside you and help you break through old cycles and ways of thinking and find hope, understanding, freedom and restoration. This programme is run in two eight week blocks.
Impact (on Low Self Esteem) A seven week course that explores the issue of self esteem. This course has an optional eighth week which looks at our Identity in Christ. Impact will allow you to explore what your self esteem is based upon and identify how you compensate for low self esteem. We will challenge you to make positive choices to rebuild a healthy self esteem. Solutions (with Anger Management) 'Solutions"
is an eight week anger management course. Anger is a natural emotion
yet can cause us and others great distress. Solutions will assist to
recognize, understand, consider and manage your anger in a positive and
constructive way. The course also provides supplements with many
practical ideas for people to individually tailor their anger management
plan. All participants are encouraged to set attainable goals, practice
new strategies and build their resources to better manage their anger.
Streamline (with healthy Boundaries) Streamline
is a seven week course looking at the issue of establishing and putting
in place personal boundaries and limits and explore reasons and
difficulties around this. We will also consider common stumbling blocks, some reactions you may encounter and the process to change plus other people's boundaries and the affect their own boundary setting may have.
High Wire (on Stress Management) supporting Canterbury Community Earthquake Recovery High Wire is a six week course (or 8 hour seminar) exploring stress management and living a balanced lifestyle. This course defines what stress is, what contributes to this condition and encourages the participant to develop healthy strategies to reduce stress and take care of themselves and those around them. This is also available as a shortened day seminar or two half day seminars and will assist the business world to meet the 2003 OSH regulations. Break Out (from Fear & Anxiety) supporting Canterbury Community Earthquake Recovery Fear and anxiety-where does it come from? What are some of the patterns that we develop and traps that we fall into? These are some of the questions we discuss in this six week course as well as looking at changing our belief system, finding our true identity and breaking out into freedom.
Turn Around (on Guilt and Shame) Turn
Around is a six week course that addresses the issues of shame and
guilt. Shame is a difficult issue to address, yet it has such a profound
affect on our lives. It influences our decisions and the way we see
ourselves. Shame has far reaching consequences that can cripple for
life. This course allows the participants to discuss and explore the
causes and effects of shame and allows the participants to learn
practical coping skills. Turn Around will define what Shame is and will
consider how to turn this around into a motivating force. Turn Around is
best run in gender specific groups because of the subject matter. It
will give the participants a fresh perspective on shame and bring hope,
personal growth and a new sense of self-appreciation.
Choice (Youth Programme) Are
you a teenager and trying to make sense of this world? Do you struggle
with your identity and low self esteem? Do you have problems at home
and don't know how to deal with them? If you answered yes to any of
these questions, then we may be able to help you. We have put together
an 11 week youth version of the adult "Your Choices" programme in
journal form. - run in two blocks. This programme has been running three years successfully
at Marlborough Girls High School in Blenheim and the first one is being
run at Marlborough Boys College this year 2010. It is our passion to
see you walking into freedom so you can make healthy choices about your
life.
Waves (in Emotional Eating) The
purpose for this course is to get to know what causes you to eat in an
unhealthy way. We will look at our emotions and many issues that can
contribute to our emotional
eating. We do not provide a diet plan and this is not a weight loss
programme. However, as we learn about who we are and why we do what we
do, you may feel confident tto make changes in the way you see yourself
and in turn this will affect the issue of emotional eating. We can't
guarantee to fix anyone, we can only walk with you part of this journey
of self discovery and self acceptance that you face. This programme is
presented in two blocks of eight weeks.
Strength (for Couples) Strength is an eight week course for couples to explore and develop healthy communication. The participants will consider possible threats to a healthy relationship. and consider their own boundaries and how these contribute positively or negatively to their relationship. They will discuss responsibility and integrity and consider positive ways to resolve conflict. This course promotes equality and partnership through communication and commitment and will assist couples to build a solid foundation of trust and safety in their relationship.
Facilitator Initial Training During this weekend training we will encourage you to esteem others higher than yourself - it is about respect, service and the ability to honour the participants as we display SERVANT LEADERSHIP. We urge you to be committed to your own 'self development' and to appropriate ongoing supervision and accountability as this will enable you to respond
with integrity as you help people become aware of their issues and begin
to move through a process to wholeness and restoration.

REAL STEPS Trust programmes, courses and workshops have been written by Mary Ponder who is the Director of IgnitionPlus. Mary has been living and working in Christchurch for the past four years during which time she established and managed Hope4Life Christchurch Trust. Prior to this she was based in Blenheim where she worked for ten years as a general counsellor, specialising in abuse, depression and grief and as a certified addiction counsellor. Mary saw a great need in the community for accessible, affordable and relevant courses and programmes that would assist people to build and transform their lives. Each course or programme is presented in easy to understand manuals which cover basic fundamentals of the topic and is designed for the benefit of everyone in the general community and reflects the unique culture we live in.
